I think there should be some distinction for us and for the public between a trained patroller and a candidate. Not just about earning the cross, but also because there may be a possible liability issue.

- Patrol Mission and Expectations
We've had some discussion about creeping informality among patrollers (that includes us) towards the expectations implicit in our public service mission. How do we balance availability and visibility to backcountry users with the lure of fresh powder or a patroller's desire to get home early to feed the dog? Do we need to enhance the patrol's focus on the patrol's mission and the responsibilities that implies? How can MM's and PL's promote that focus when on patrol?
